Annie Leibovitz is one of the most influential photographers of our time, she has photographed personal portraits of dozens of celebrities, including Queen Elizabeth II. She was also the first woman to be named chief photographer at Rolling Stone magazine and the last person to take a portrait of John Lennon.

What we find inspiring about Annie is that she lets her camera engage so well with the subject. In her recent masterclass she divulges four lessons:

PHOTOGRAPHY IS AN ADVENTURE

The studio (and camera) does not only let you capture moments, but to create scenes and moments from your imagination.

LOOK BACK AT YOUR WORK

Every time you create, you are building on what you have done before. Looking back at your work allows you to keep on improving and – guaranteed- you will see the difference with each step you take.

PHOTOGRAPH PEOPLE CLOSE TO YOU- FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Annie’s whole focus is knowing her subject. Starting off (and even continuing) with taking photo’s of something close to you- whether product, person or pet allows you to engage with both the nature of the product and its external appearance.

DON’T LET YOUR KIT KILL YOUR CREATIVITY

In an age where there is so much available- nothing can still replace your raw talent and effort by working with what you have. This was one of our inspirations at Studio Pod- by being able to provide a space designed and equipped for creativity.
